Soulmagic ft J-Sun – I Wonder

Now I was fortunate enough to be sent this little gem last week and I can only apologise that it’s taken me until now to feature it. This is forthcoming on Soulmagic Records by Soulmagic ft J-Sun and is a follow up to their smash ‘Someone Like You’ which was released on Strictly Rhythm last year and supported by big names such as Pete Tong. This track incorporates both an organ and a piano riff sitting together and working amazingly, then a great vocal sits over the top. This is destined to be huge! I played this on my radio show over the weekend and the response was massive. I haven’t done a great job in describing the track or giving it any justice, just listen to it and you’ll get what I mean. Awesome! This was released on 26th March exclusive to Traxsource as a Miami WMC promo, get it downloaded..

Larry Cadge – Vicious Circle

Fresh out on Smiley Fingers is this two-mix release of ‘Vicious Circle’ by ‘Larry Cadge’. The main version is the original mix which to me, is very familiar sounding and sounds a lot like the classic ‘French Kiss’ in the way it builds, the bass patterns etc. I played this version on my radio show on Saturday and it went down a treat with listeners wanting to know what it was. I can’t wait to play this out to a crowd of proper house-heads, I could even squeeze it into an old skool house set and it just works. The next mix is the dub mix which is a lot deeper than the original, some nice bass and low synth stabs, I can definitely imagine this being played in the clubs. I look forward to hearing it out there. Crackin’ release from Larry Cadge and Smiley Fingers, out now! Grab your copy on Beatport..

James Trystan & Ryan Stavrou – Vibrations

This is something I’ve been meaning to review for a while, something fresh by James Trystan & Ryan Stavrou out on Great Stuff Recordings. This release comes in 3 parts; an original mix, a dub mix and a remix by Mario Ochoa. Let’s start from the beginning and check out the original mix. Some really nice laid-back deep drums with an addictive organ chord pattern sitting nicely on top, then comes the breakdown. This tune has a nice male vocal over the organs, an almighty sub-bass sitting under the chords, and a lovely side-chained string sound cutting in and out throughout. Absolute tune! Next up, we’ll check out the Mario Ochoa remix. Now, Mario Ochoa is no stranger to this website as I have reviewed a few of his past releases. His remix kicks off with some skippy 909 drums, a single chord stab and then his signature deep ‘speed garage’ sounding bassline which he has incorporated into a lot of his tracks lately. Eventually this version kicks in to a nice big techy stomper with the original vocal chopped up and used as a stab and a short part of the original chord riff, I thinkit’s safe to say I really like this version too! The dub mix is exactly as it says and is the original version just without vocals, it has just as much of an impact without them so I’ll give it a big thumbs up! Yet another quality release from Great Stuff. Available now, so buy it!

NIBC & Life So Far – You Let Me Go

This is something new on HK Records by NIBC & Life So Far, and as well as an original mix, it comes with a remix from LKiD. The original has all the elements of a current deep house track but seems a lot more upbeat and worthy of smashing a main room to pieces! I particularly like the old garage style warp bass riff coupled with the keys chords. What a smasher! The LKiD remix is a lot more laid back and actually pretty soulful with some lovely rhodes chords and an amazing echoing vocals. This kicks in with a nice punchy bass pattern to boot. Awesome release, check it out!

Trav & Volta Vs Marco Darko – Hey Boy EP

Nice deep house EP by Trav & Volta Vs Marco Darko released on King Street Sounds. This is made up of two-tracks, first up is Trav & Volta’s ‘Hey Boy’ which is a bassline driven, deep, bouncy monster! I like everything about this track from the female vocal, the sketchy drums and the huge drop into that almighty bassline. This has a really strong groove, it’s huge! The second track is Trav & Volta and Marco Darko’s ‘Uncomfortably Numb’ which makes use of some really nice synths and a subtle punchy bass riff. This has a slight old skool feel to it and has an occasional airy foghorn sound that gives the whole track a sense of eerieness! Great release.

Loko – Kolosus (Original Mix)

Now this is one of those tunes I just stumbled across and thought “Yes, I love this”. It just seems to have all the elements of a big room house tune and all in the right places. Sitting under it all is a nice deep bassline which it doubled up by a high end bass sound, nice little riff too, really catchy! This has a nice deep breakdown too with a chime pattern kicking in before a big rise and drop. Released on Loko’s very own Loko Motion Records. Quality tune!

Gotsome – Bassline (Chocolate Puma Remix)

There are so many different mixes of this track and Defected have even released a whole remix package, I am going to focus solely on the Chocolate Puma remix. I loved the original of this track and if you missed it then you should go & check it out, Chocolate Puma have added this stomping bassline into this version that definitely gets me going. This has main room house written all over it and guaranteed to get the hands in the air. I can’t wait to drop this at one of my gigs.

Jason Chance & Michelle Weeks – My House

I always look forward to new releases from Jason Chance, last year he had an amazing year of releases both independently and teaming up with the likes of My Digital Enemy and Kevin Andrews (Hoxton Whores). This time around he has released this banging main room house track with the brilliant vocal talents of Michelle Weeks. Along with the original mix, there are remixes by Mike Newman and Tikki Tembo. The original is huge! Massive build up into a big blippy main room drop. This high energy mix is guaranteed to get the dancefloor going mad, hear it for yourself and tell me if I’m wrong! The Mike Newman remix is more of a dub mix as it features more beats and bass than vocal, very nice flowing bass pattern with some big building synths, love it. The Tikki Tembo remix is completely different, it has some simple 80’s sounding drums with some quirky little synths and effects throughout. A great remix! Check these out and get ’em in the gig bag!

Terrence Parker – When Loves The Feeling

Here’s one for the classic piano house lovers! Produced by Terrence Parker who is an absolute legend in the Detroit house scene and has been since the mid-80’s! This release features an original mix as well as a remix from Lenny RX & Kenny Summit, lets talk about the original first; this track has an absolutely addictive piano riff and a highly sung vocal sitting nicely over some classic house drums, beautiful! The remix is slightly more upbeat! Using the same piano riff and vocal, but this time sitting over some bigger sounding drums but without losing that classic aged sound. Laying underneath those elements is a great punchy bassline which really gives the track some bounce. I test drove this track on my radio show last weekend and got a great reaction from listeners. Released on GFY Black Label. 🙂
