Preview: Leftwing & Kody – Missing EP

Ok so here’s a sneak preview of the forthcoming 2-part EP by Leftwing & Kody on Lapsus Music. Lets kick it off with the first track, the title track ‘Missing’. So straight away you can tell this one is gonna be deep and dark, some really nice elements from a nice high blippy pattern to some pitched down vocals and an almighty dark sawtooth synth complimenting a deep, sub-bass. Perfectly eerie and a corker of a tune! The second track ‘Higher’ is more of the usual style from Leftwing & Kody with a nice stabby bass pattern sat under some really nice deep house drums with some delayed and arpeggiated synths. I also detects an echoing vocal occasionally which reminds me of their previous release ‘Turning’ on Off Recordings. Awesome release for Lapsus and two completely different styles from Lefting & Kody.. Quality!

Dirty Secretz – Whatever EP

I’ve been following the production of Dirty Secretz for a little while now and this guy is quality! Brand new out on Floorplay Music (Prok & Fitch’s label) is this banging main room tech EP. Kicking things off with the title track ‘Whatever’, this is big! It consists of a really nice deep techy bass riff sitting under some big lively drums and the occasional old skool sounding amen drum break. The thing I like about this tune the most is how a chopped up vocal is incorporated into the bouncy rhythm of the track, that vocal is signature! Love it! Next up is ‘Once Again’, this is a bit more relaxed than the first track but a nice tune to build up the club room. A nice 3 note bass pattern and twitchy repetitive vocal which breaks down then drops, awesome! Check it and get it in the bag!

Jay Lumen – Find Myself EP

Ok, so I’m a bit late with this one. This EP has been sitting in my reviews list since it’s release on 25th February and even though it’s late, it’s still worth a mention! There’s two parts to this release and they are both produced by Jay Lumen, who is no stranger to this site. First up is a track called ‘Find Myself’ which is a mix between deep house and bumpy tech. A really nice punchy bass pattern makes this track stand out along with some subtle vocals and an awesome breakdown, build, rise and drop. It’s big! The other track is called ‘Radio Ready’ which has the same deep house and bumpy tech feel to it although this one incorporates a nice warp bass pattern, a big underground element and a sense of darkness. Jay makes great use of the claps throughout this one. Great release, check it out..

JD Samson & MEN – All The Way Thru (Andre Crom & Chi Thanh Remix)

I REALLY like this one! Fresh out on OFF Recordings is this awesome remix of a previously released electro-punk track. Huge addictive vocal and nice flowing drums with what sounds like a low organ bass pattern sitting underneath it all. The breaks down to pretty much nothing before the bass and vocal carry it through and rise into a drop. I have a feeling this one is gonna be in my head for a while! Absolutely loving everything OFF Recordings have to offer at the moment, get a load of this!

Siwell – Reset EP

Ok, so I got sent this EP a couple of weeks ago and have had time to test drive it both out in the clubs, and on my radio show. This two track EP is simply amazing and goes down a treat. First up is the title track called ‘Reset’ which is a huge tech house/techno stomper. This has loads of deep sub-bass sat under some glitchy drums and offbeat snares, a huge breakdown, great vocal and quality drop. Definitely a club track. The next tune is called ‘Feel Alright’ which has some really bouncy drums and percussion that breaks right down before a nice riser and big drop into something that would pretty much force your feet to move on a dancefloor. Seriously, this EP is huge so take a listen. Sphera Records have done it again!

Paul Lock – You Were Saying EP

Fresh out on Family Grooves is this awesome 4-track EP by Paul Lock. We’ve said it before but it just seems that everything this label is releasing is absolutely incredible! First up is the track ‘Come Together’ which is a nice bouncy tech house tune with a deep sub bass rhythm sat under some synth stabs and very distinct ‘speech’ vocal and crowd chants, really nice! Next up is a banger called ‘I Feel This’ which has somehow got itself bouncing around in my head, I can’t stop chanting the vocal. Huge main room tech house tune with a great breakdown, rising build and almighty drop! Now I have to say, the next track is a personal favourite and it’s called ‘Let It Move Ya’. For regular followers of this website this tune might sound familiar as I featured it as a promo in the fourth edition of the PHUK podcast (listen here). The track is definitely one for the main room. It has a big deep bass pattern and loads of old skool sounding chord stabs sitting alongside a nice choppy vocal, I love it! The final tune on the EP is called ‘Say This’ and is another favourite! This one MUST be heard on a big sound system to fully appreciate it. Big stabs, deep sub-bass and a great vocal all sitting alongside some big techy drums. HUGE release, get this in your bag!

Jesse James – Baby Boo

The original version of this track released at some point last year by Love Not Money Records and due to its success they have decided to re-release along with two amazing remixes just in time for the Miami WMC. Jesse James is a name that you will see on many big event line-ups all over the globe, as well as playing for his own hugely successful events brand ‘Connected’. The track is called ‘Baby Boo’, it’s a nice bumpy deep house track with a very familiar vocal, some awesome chords and old skool stabs, but what really makes this is the deep bassline rhythm. Seriously, this needs to be heard on a big sound system to really appreciate it, huge tune! First up of the remixes is by ‘A Lister’, a name that is really popular in the deep house scene right now with a catalog of absolute stompers. A Lister has taken the track to another level with a totally addictive bassline. On the breakdown he has added a subtle clap and some high rhodes notes that build and drop into something any dancefloor would go mad for. The second remix is by ‘Real Nice’ and it is exactly that! In this version there are some lovely high bongo’s coupled with a deep punchy bass rhythm all sitting nicely under the original cut up vocal. I’m actually really excited about this release and look forward to hearing it out as well as playing it out myself, my only dilemma is what mix to play! Grab this asap, it’s HUGE!

Miguel Bastida – Cielo EP

This is a nice 3-track EP released on Deeperfect by Miguel Bastida consisting of two original tracks and a remix. First up is the title track ‘Cielo’ which is a fairly laid back tech tune with loads of really nice elements drifting in and out and giving it a quite dark feel. The bassline on this really deep and flows well, I can really imagine it sounding huge on a big sound system. The second track is the original mix of a track called ‘Buenos Aliens’, this is another really deep tech tune but this time it has some weird little creature scratch samples and a few growls which make this tune really creepy. Such a good idea on the production and it works really well, thumbs up! The final track of the EP is the ‘Cele’ remix of Buenos Aliens. This one incorporated the same scratchy creature samples and the growls but the track itself is a bit more upbeat. I particularly like the breakdown and the way it drops. To get a better idea of what I mean then have a listen, I’m sure you wont be disappointed!

Dave Seaman – Flatter To Deceive

Dave Seaman is a name thats been about for quite a while and this is his debut for Great Stuff Recordings. This one is called ‘Flatter to Deceive’ and as well as the original mix, it has a remix by Seff. The original is a bouncy, sketchy tech house track with some really nice elements. Nice deep bass riff sitting under some big distinctive open hats and some high pitched blips along with a wailing vocal. I really like this! The Seff remix is a bit deeper than the original and also has some really nice elements such as a repetitive sequenced vocal and bass stab which add a really nice rhythm. This version also has a very deep bass riff that would sound amazing on a big club system. Thumbs up from me and I look forward to dropping this in the clubs!

Sonny Wharton – Dazed & Confused

Another name that’s no stranger to this website is Sonny Wharton, and he’s back after his last smasher on Skint Records called Pandemonium (also featured on phuk!) with this banger called ‘Dazed & Confused’, on his own label ‘Whartone Records’. From the off this is a nice lively tune. I love the looped vocal during the breakdown, eventually it drops into a fantastic punchy bass pattern with some great stabby synths. If you’re after a track which is constantly upbeat and continually building, then this is it! Very well produced. I know Sonny will read this as he too follows some of the reviews from us at PHUK (Source: Twitter), and I take my hat to you on this one. Awesome!
